Looking Good

With about a week and a half to go until the first carnival, the submissions are pouring in. Even if no more come zinging in under the deadline (5 p.m. Jan. 4) our carnival would still be well-attended.

Who wants to stop at well attended? I don't. Keep those entries coming. The more the merrier, right?

It's a couple of weeks before the first Carnival of the Mundane is scheduled to appear, but it's not too early to submit any posts you think capture some of the humor or offer some insight into the experience of daily life.

Guidelines

Kristen asked for some direction as to "what kind of mundanity we're supposed to be espousing."

I'd be happy to offer some,if I has actually thought about that.

Let me see what I can come up with...

Here's what I was imagining a host would do.

A lot of blog carnivals accept every post sent to them and I was counting on that being our policy too. That's convenient for the host because it means no agonizing over which posts are good enough to gain admission to our prestigious party.

The only guidance I can give at this point is that I don't want posts about politics or celebrities or the technicalities of motocross racing or any other hobby sneaking in.

I realize a carnival devoted to posts about "everyday life" is like a carnival that solicits posts about "whatever" or about "anything." If, because of our rather general submission criteria, we find hosts are flooded with entries maybe we'll limit each edition of the carnival to the first fifteen submissions. We'll have to play it by ear.

That's what I've got for guidelines so far. I hope it helps. I trust that while I may not be able to define the mundane strictly, you all recognize it when you see it.

Ideas

As far as I know, the Carnival of the mundane will be the only blog carnival to have its own blog.

After each Carnival is published I'd like to cross post it here after some time has elapsed. Allowing a few days or a week to go by before cross posting the Carnival should limit the degree of competition between this blog and the blog of whoever is hosting.

The long-term plan is to have all the Carnival stashed here forever.

I'll probably use this blog's blogroll to create a permanent list of everyone who hosts.

So Far, So Good

At least until this thing gets off the ground I've decided to run it only twice a month.

With that kind of schedule it looks like we're covered for the first four and a half months of the new year. If there's a rush of people wanting to host let me know and we'll work it out.
